The Forrestfield Hawks and Kalamunda Bulls will have brand new club rooms and facilities if The Nationals in Coalition are elected to Government on May 3rd.
Candidate for Bullwinkel Mia Davies joined members and the City of Kalamunda representatives to announce the Coalition would contribute $5.75 million toward the project if elected.
The funding will also deliver an expansion of Morrison Oval which includes new LED sports flood lights, car park improvements, cricket nets, and landscaping.
“Hartfield Park plays host to thousands of hours of sport every year and is a significant regional community sport and recreation precinct for the City of Kalamunda,” Ms Davies said.
“I am pleased the Coalition has committed to assist the City of Kalamunda to deliver the upgrades required to provide modern facilities for rugby and cricket so they can continue to grow.”
Ms Davies said she had taken the time to visit with both clubs, meeting with members and players on a number of occasions.
“Getting to know the history of the clubs, having a beer with the members, and enjoying the camaraderie of game day has been a great part of putting my hand up to be the candidate for Bullwinkel,” she said.
“Hartfield Park is home to some great sporting clubs and it’s clear the volunteers work hard to support their players and encourage as many people as possible to participate.
“But when it comes to cricket and rugby the facilities need some work - especially to cater for women’s and junior teams.”
Ms Davies said the City of Kalamunda had worked with the two clubs on the designs for the new facility which would be finalised when funding was secured.
She welcomed a commitment from Rugby WA to invest in the project pointing to the growing membership and player numbers in Forrestfield as a good investment for their sport.
“The Hawks Cricket Club has 100 members on the books and is growing, and the Bulls have over 400 in their club and are bursting at the seams in their current clubrooms,” she said.
“As a former State Minister for Sport & Recreation I know it’s hard for Local Government’s and Clubs to fundraise and support new facilities – so I’m pleased The Nationals have recognised the importance of this project.
“Sport can be a game changer, particularly team sport, and we need to keep working on providing opportunities for people of all ages and ability to join a club and reap the benefits.
“The new clubrooms will become more than just the bricks and mortar, it will be a meeting place, a place to hold the club history and share great moments with the community.”
